Festool Goes Cordless with Three New Edge Routers
Festool just cut the cord literally, with three new 18V edge routers made for ultra-precise furniture and cabinetry work: the OFKC 500, MFKC 700, and MFKC 700K (for edge banding). These routers feature brushless EC-TEC motors, 27mm dust ports, 10,000–25,000 RPM, and millimeter-precise depth adjustment.
They’re also Bluetooth battery compatible for smart auto-start vac control, and expected to launch in Europe by September 2025. U.S. release details? Still TBD.
Festool also dropped a limited-edition RO150 Rotex Sander to celebrate 100 years of innovation. The tool itself remains the reliable triple-threat sander it’s always been, but now it ships in a special sustainer with a commemorative cap and a €100 cashback offer (Europe only, for now).
Makita’s Camping-Ready LXT Lantern Radio
Makita is back with a wild card, the XRM13 Bluetooth radio lantern. Running on 18V LXT batteries, it delivers 360° light, FM radio, a USB charger, three color temps, two brightness levels, and even a strobe for… night tent raves? Priced at $159 bare tool, this is Makita’s most outdoorsy offering yet.
Ryobi Clears Drains with a USB Lithium Auger
Joining Ryobi’s USB Lithium line is a 3-foot drain auger, ideal for clearing sinks, tubs, and showers. The kit includes a battery, USB-C port, multi-directional spin, quick-connect collar, and IPX7 waterproofing (yes, submersible up to 3 ft for 30 mins). Coming to Home Depot in August for about $60.
Harbor Freight Launches a Beast of an Air Impact Wrench
If you’re still running air tools, check out Harbor Freight’s Earthquake XT ¾” Air Impact Wrench, cranking out 1,800 ft-lbs of breakaway torque and 1,300 ft-lbs of fastening. At just 8 lbs with a composite housing and twin hammers, it’s available now for $249.
Milwaukee Goes Compact, Smart, and Magnetic
Milwaukee made waves with several new launches:
- M12 FUEL Sub-Compact Impact Wrenches (¼” and ⅜”): The lightest and most compact in their class, with 100 ft-lbs and 225 ft-lbs of torque respectively. Four-mode controls, auto shut-off, and bolt removal mode make them perfect for tight spaces. Starting at $199 bare or $329 for the ⅜” kit.
- Shockwave QUIK-CLEAR 6″ 2-in-1 Magnetic Nut Drivers: Flick metal shavings off your magnet to prevent stripped heads. Two combo sets (¼”/5/16″ and 5/16″/⅜”) with color-coded rings and custom alloy steel—listed now for $14.97 at Ohio Power Tool.
