Hey guys! My name’s Sarah, and this is my Top 5 DIY, Bookshelves! Twice a week I’ll help you sort through the endless stream of maker videos, and help you find the very best of the best for your next build!

Earlier this month Rob decided to build his own version of a home bodyweight gym as one of our projects for Maker break and it turned out great. Ill add a link for that video below. But that got me thinking. What other types of home gyms are out there? So I went searching, and these are my favorites from what I found!

#5 Spencley Design Co.

Let’s get started with #5! Eric from Spencley Design Co shows us all that it doesn’t take much to start your own home gym. In this video he walks you through how to set up a Pull up Chin Bar with just a couple tools and some 2×4’s. He used a 36” piece of black pipe that is ¾” in diameter for his bar. He provides you with a cut list and plans as well so if you are looking for a starting point to make your own home gym this is perfect!

#4 Nick Uhas

Nick Uhas is #4! Nick started off his home gym build with recycling old projects and using materials he had around the house. You can find most of what he used for this at your local home improvement store, you know, if you don’t have the supplies at home. One of the perks of building your own home gym is you can customize it to exactly what you want for your workout routines. Nick used a lot of 2×4’s, 4×4’s and black pipe for his gym, but my favorite part about this build is that he couldn’t find weights online so he got creative and built his own using simple supplies from Home Depot.

#3 DIY Creators

Next Up is #3. Glen from DIY Creators made his home gym using mostly 2×6’s, plywood and a lot of threaded inserts. If your gym has a final resting place and doesn’t need to be moved around you can just screw your wood together instead of using the inserts. But this makes his gym easy to take apart and move if he needs to. Seriously Glen goes above and beyond to share every step of this build and it would take me forever to go through all of the details here, so you really need to go watch it for yourself. You won’t be disappointed. Glen, Your gym turned out amazing, and your little helper is absolutely adorable! Thank you for sharing.

#2 Home Made Modern

# 2 is Home Made Modern with this DIY Fold Out Gym! Who doesn’t need a fold out gym in their life? Ammarite? He made this entirely out of plywood and wasted no time  cutting them down into strips using his table saw. First he built the back of the cabinet one layer at a time until the depth was what he needed to be able to hide the weights  inside. Then he moved on to securing that to the wall and ceiling. He added dowel rods for where the weights will be stored and tested them to make sure they would be able to hold the weight. Next it was time to build the drawbridge front that will double as a mat for the weights while he is working out.  All that was left was to add the pull up bar, some gym foam mats to the drawbridge and the weights. This is a super creative build and I really like that you can easily store everything out of sight!

#1 Ben Wolfe

Finally coming in at #1 is Ben Wolfe and his outdoor gym! I feel like this is the best combination of jungle gym and body weight gym. Ben starts off by showing you the digital plans to help give you a better picture of what the end goal looks like. This is not a small build, even though it is pretty simple these are huge sections made to support a lot of weight. This backyard gym has a weight and cardio platform parallel bars, exercise rings, a climbing rope, and a pull up bar. Honestly if I had this in my backyard I would probably actually work out. This is sick.

Hey there! This is kind of off topic but I need some advice from an established blog. Is it very hard to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick. I’m thinking about making my own but I’m not sure where to begin. Do you have any tips or suggestions? Many thanks

I’m really enjoying the theme/design of your website. Do you ever run into any web browser compatibility issues? A number of my blog readers have complained about my website not working correctly in Explorer but looks great in Opera. Do you have any tips to help fix this problem?

I do like the way you have framed this particular challenge and it does indeed offer me a lot of fodder for thought. However, because of what precisely I have witnessed, I basically hope when the responses pack on that people continue to be on point and don’t embark on a soap box associated with some other news du jour. Still, thank you for this exceptional point and though I can not necessarily concur with the idea in totality, I respect the viewpoint.

Yesterday, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a 40 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now destroyed and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone!
