Top 5 DIY Outdoor Furniture! The best maker build videos for your next project!
Hey guys, I am Sarah. Every week I comb through hundreds of DIY videos preparing projects for our weekly Maker show, Maker Break. Along the way, I find some good projects… and some GREAT ones, And right now, I’m going to share them with you! This Sarah’s Top 5 DIY! Outdoor Furniture
#5 – Mr.Build It
Let’s Get to It with #5! Mr.Build It made a couple DIY Outdoor sofa’s that cost about $250 a piece. He used the table saw to trim down all of his pieces to give them a uniformed…”not construction” look. He mainly used glue and pocket holes for assembly and built the sofas in smaller more manageable sizes then put them all together. He walks you through how to use the right lumber, or how to treat the wrong lumber for outdoor furniture and even had a little human help finish the seat slat installation. The final product looks awesome!
#4 – Remodelaholic
Remodelaholic is #4 with this awesome Bonus Seating around a floating deck! If you have a smaller space and want to make use of every square inch of what space you have this is your project. Christa added all of this seating and even little side tables with mainly 2×4’s and 2×6’s, but made sure to go heavy duty on the supports and used 4×4’s and some deck tie brackets to attach them to the deck. My brother’s deck is about this size and I know they were wanting to add some seating, maybe I can convince him to let me build this with him, plus we have a huge family so when everyone gets together there is never enough seats. This would be perfect!
#3 – Pneumatic Addict
Next Up is #3. Elisha from Pneumatic Addict solved a problem with outdoor seating that has always driven me nuts. If you have removable cushions and don’t want a clunky looking bin to store them in, but want to keep them nice…where do you put them? How about IN, THE, Furniture (?!) Yeah, this is sweet. She made her own DIY outdoor sofa with hidden storage for the cushions AND…Juice boxes in the arm! I love that she shared some of the mistakes that accrued along the way and how she fixed them too. I appreciate that and it makes me feel normal. This is a pretty big sofa so if you have a small outdoor space this may not be the best choice, but if you have the room for it this is such a fun build!
#2 – DIY Creators
# 2 is DIY Creators with this huge outdoor Sofa! Glen built a modern outdoor chair a few years ago and decided to build a matching sofa, and he did not disappoint. This thing is a beast of a sofa, constructed with a lot of douglas fir 4x4s and 2×4’s. This build is complete with a planter box, bottle opener, and designated projector spot perfect for those summer nights with friends and family!
#1 – The Samurai Carpenter
Last but not least is The Samurai Carpenter at #1! Jesse built this stunning outdoor bench and matching chair with so much attention to detail that the final product is almost too pretty to sit on. The best part is that he made it completely out of 2×6 dimensional lumber so you can make it with lumber you probably already have access to. I am nowhere near this level of skill yet but projects like this are what I want to be able to build one day. So I’ll continue to practice and learn in the meantime. Awesome Job Jesse!
