Milwaukee Is Getting into the Drywall Market with a Screwgun and Cut-out Tool
Milwaukee is expanding its M18 line with a brushless drywall screwgun and a cut out tool.
Milwaukee typically lists their “core trades” as being plumbing, HVAC, electrical and MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) professionals. There isn’t a huge window for drywall hangers to fit in with those categories, so a foray into drywall tools wasn’t part of the initial FUEL release. Milwaukee is planning to rectify their neglect of drywall professions with an M18 FUEL Drywall Screwgun and an M18 Cut Out Tool.
According to Milwaukee, the M18 FUEL drywall screwgun is the first cordless unit capable of totally replacing a corded screwgun. It will also feature an auto start feature that will lock the trigger on, but only power the gun when a screw is being driven, both increasing the runtime off a battery charge and reducing motor noise between screws
The M18 Cut Out Tool is purportedly the fastest cutting, most compact tool of its kind. It cuts drywall faster than the leading competitive cordless units on the market. It has the industry’s lightest weight, shortest length, and slimmest handle, so it can be used for longer periods of time with less stress for the user.
Milwaukee has been looking for areas that they can get contractors away from corded tools for years. While they pride themselves on not being a “me too” company, drywall tools are probably a bit overdue on making their way into Milwaukee’s cordless lineup.
The M18 Cut Out Tool and M18 Drywall Screwgun will both be available in October of 2016. Both will be available for purchase and pre-order at Ohio Power Tool in the coming months.
