DeWALT drops 400 ft-lbs on Milwaukee. Now what? New Power Tool News!
DeWALT continues it’s drive into shops with a pair of new tools that are boasting some very 18V numbers, on their XTREME Subcompact 12V MAX Series. How are they doing that? We’re gonna find out. Let’s GO!
DeWALT just expanded their popular XTREME Subcompact Series 12V MAX Tools with a pair of all new Impact Wrenches, available in either ½” or ⅜”. We’ve seen plenty of battery powered impact wrenches lately, and the Milwaukee M12 FUEL Stubby has been particularly popular, and as of this moment, their website still notes it’s Industry Leading 250 ft-lbs of breakaway torque. Not so fast milwaukee.
The new DeWALTs have something to say about that Industry lead. 250? Sure. The DeWALTs offer 250 ft lbs of Tightening torque, but then go for a knockout with a ridiculous 400 ft lbs of nut busting torque. That’s a 60% jump over Milwaukee. But power isn’t the only bragging point here. Being a part of their Subcompact Series, this bounty of power comes in a very small package. At only 5.2” long, and weighing in at only 2lbs, it’ll be easy to get into tight spaces, and light enough to throw at anyone with differing political views. That’s what we’re doing right now right? Throwing things at each other?
Both models feature a hog ring anvil that makes it easy to swap out your sockets, and to protect from chemicals and solvents often found in garages, they have a glass filled nylon housing. As a matter of fact, the 3 and 5ah batteries that come with the kit are also special oil resistant models, that look like the oil resistant flexvolt batteries that came on our DeWALT pipe threader. Last of all, I will NEVER say no to an LED ring light, especially when working in a dark engine bay.
Both the half inch and ⅜” will be available for $149 bare, or $349 in a kit with one 3ah and one 5ah oil resistant 12V MAX Batteries, a charger and a bag. So will these new EXTREME Subcompacts kick the Milwaukee down the hill? There are 18V Sub compacts for several brands, including Makita, that these DeWALTS appear to beat on paper. We’ll have to get these into the hands of some pros to find out. That should happen in Early 2021 according to DeWALT.
