Makita’s 16” Cordless Chainsaw was released over a year ago, and today it’s still one of the top professional cordless chainsaws on the market. As the debate between GAS and ELECTRIC chainsaws continues, we gave it to our friends at Aluhm & Arbor Tree Preservation to put it through its paces on the job site and decide if it deserves a spot on a professional tree truck. This is your Inside Look at the Makita 16” Cordless Chainsaw. You can order one at Ohio Power Tool today!

We start things off on the job site with Tyler at Ahlum & Arbor. Tyler used this chainsaw pretty consistently over the course of 2 weeks to really get a feel and properly review the tool. Although the battery life kept this saw running every day, the oil adjustment was a bit “finicky.” After adjusting, it was pretty consistent after it was dialed in.

Tyler also mentions that the saw tends to jump while cutting, which is typical to a chainsaw with a low chain speed. Even with a general consensus of this Cordless Chainsaw not matching up to a gas powered, Tyler thinks it’s becoming a strong contender and he could see this being a good tool to keep on his truck for smaller jobs.

After Tyler finished up with it at the jobsite, we took it to Brian at Aluhm & Arbor’s garage, to take a look inside the Makita’s features and design.

Brian was impressed with the simplistic design of Makita’s 16” Battery-powered chainsaw, meaning if something were to go wrong, a homeowner could easily pop this open and repair. He agrees that the lack of chain speed causes more vibration and bouncing while cutting, which wouldn’t make this saw an all day, everyday tool. Brian also mentions, no battery protection or cover. If you’re up in a tree and something knocks the battery out, it could be a very dangerous situation.

Overall with the notable “cons” of the saw Tyler and Brian both were impressed with versatility and power the Makita 18V 10″ Chain Saw produces. This saw isn’t going to replace your gas powered but is an excellent addition to your arsenal of smaller job tools.
