Finally, GearWrench was running around SEMA, STAFDA and other trade shows last year demoing these Bolt Biter Sockets but were not available in stores until just recently! They are here now as a Bolt Biter 8 Piece Set 84782, 15 Piece Set 84783 or a full 28 Piece Set 84784 which all sets include ¼” and 3/8” sockets, see the difference between the sets below. We’ve been very impressed by the functionality and versatility of these new Bolt Biters!
More than just a Bolt Extractor
The design of the Bolt Biter is pretty revolutionary, the socket slips on as your traditional socket would, no need to hammer it on like other extractors. The internal design is tapered so it’ll grab the material wherever it can, the sockets are also Bi-Directional so good for putting on bolts as well if a replacement bolt isn’t available. Bill from GearWrench in the video below says 50,000 cycle use, these are rated for impact use but good for hand tightening as well, which pretty much means they should never wear out with normal use.
Really these are more than just an extractor set, they are really a backup socket set as well for when that 12mm socket rolls away again, since they don’t damage the bolts we’d have confidence in using a Bolt Biter socket on a new bolt in a pinch as well.
