By the time you read this the full line relaunch of over 60+ new Jet Air Tools will be packed up on trucks and headed to Jet Tool distributors across the country. While Jet has been in the air tool market for some time it was somewhat of piece-meal offer that did not have a consistency across their tools or Good, Better, Best options necessary for the very popular tools like impacts and ratchets. Without having tested any of these new air tools we can at least say we do like the simplicity and clarity of their new offering.
The R12 Series is their top of line and the units are designed to go right up against top of the line IR, CP, Snap-On among others, R8 Series balances price-to-performance and the R6 Series is more of a value offering. This is common for other top manufacturers with 15 options in impact wrenches alone, offered in various drive sizes and across all 3 series. For tools like pneumatic angle grinders currently the only offerings are in R8 Series with 4”, 5” & 7” options, die grinders only in R12 and R6. Of course we would like to see R12, R8 & R6 options for all the tools but at least we have a better expectation how the tools should performance upfront. Additionally we would expect to continue to see more innovation from Jet so we may see these fill in or R12 tools in new categories.
We will be looking to do some Skidmore torque testing as well as some comparison testing in the near future once these tool are available. Will they meet and/or exceed the competition we will soon see. These tools are covered under the “lifetime warranty” Red Assurance Guarantee against “manufacturer defect”, as well as a 1 year “Wear and Tear” warranty. Air tools are tough to warranty anyway, much more difficult than other tools as without proper oil and maintenance things can go south very quickly, neither cover “misuse, abuse, accidents, negligence, improper repair or alternations.”
