PCC475B

While we have not had much experience with the Porter Cable 12V ClampSaw we have had a fair amount of time with the Dewalt 12V recip that shares a similar design (minus the clamp). For the Dewalt it was a very positive experience; see our recent post on 12V Recip Saw Showdown. The Porter Cable ClampSaw probably should have been included in our original test as it is one of the most popular 12V cordless saws on the market thanks to the nice design coupled with its low price point and easy accessibility at the Lowe’s. For more info on the 18V version checkout the full Porter Cable press release below.

TOWSON, Md. – PORTER-CABLE announces the launch of a new 18 Volt ClampSaw® Reciprocating Saw (PCC475B) that offers the power, speed and innovation professionals demand for ultimate performance. The PCC475B reciprocating saw is an appropriate option for all trades in the construction industry due to its cutting speed, but the innovative tool free clamping shoe makes it ideal for contractors who cut pipe, strut, threaded rod or rebar.

“We wanted to give our users a tool that has the power to perform tough applications while providing controlled cuts when working with smaller material,” said Wil Granger, group product manager, PORTER-CABLE. “Based upon our research a lot of users express frustration with starting and completing cuts in smaller material such as pipe or strut.  The issues with material movement when cutting are threefold:  lower productivity; reduced accuracy; and marring the surface of the material.  The PCC475B reciprocating saw greatly reduces these frustrations with a tool free shoe that extends around the material and clamps it into place for a fast, accurate and clean cut.”

A second innovative feature on the PCC475B reciprocating saw is the three-position pivoting handle that allows users to fit the saw into tight spaces. This feature makes it easy for the user to ideally position their hands for each cut.  In the off-set position, the saw is just over 12” from front to back making it easy to get in between rafters.  The angled position is a common setting as it allows a user to easily put pressure on the blade for cutting speed. This position is also an ideal setting for overhead work.  When the user needs to minimize the height of the tool, they can extend the tool to the inline position so that the distance from top to bottom is less than five inches.

The PCC475B reciprocating saw also features a one-inch stroke length that delivers up to 3,000 strokes per minute (SPM) for aggressive cuts on the jobsite.  To further enhance efficiency, the unit features a tool free blade change that allows fast and effortless blade replacement that helps to eliminate downtime.  The tool also features a slip-resistant over molded handle and gear housing for comfort.  In addition, a LED light illuminates workspaces in dark areas. Weighing just 4.4 pounds, the PCC475B ClampSaw® reciprocating saw is compact and lightweight.

The PCC475B will be available as a bare unit in September 2012 at Lowe’s and independent distributors. The PCC475B includes a 6-inch woodworking blade and will retail for approximately $89.97. The 18 Volt ClampSaw® reciprocating saw will come with a three-year limited warranty, one-year service contract and 90-day money-back guarantee.
