DeWALT Just announced a new 20V MAX Brushless, Compact Stud and Joist Drill with wait for it… FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE! Which means, by simply choosing the right battery, you’ll get 83% more power! Let’s go!

This is the DCD445B and the 444B 20V Max Brushless Compact… I already said all that. These are relatively small, 20V drills, designed for electricians, plumbers and remodelers. OR anyone that needs to drill holes in studs really. That means lots of power, it a right-angle format designed to fit in tight spaces.

The 445 has a 7/16in quick change chuck, and the 444 has a ½” quick change chuck. They both feature DeWALT’s E-Clutch system that shuts the tool down in a bing-up, always appreciated, an led light so you can see what you’re drilling, and they’re both tool connect chip ready. But the most significant feature is that “FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE” logo on the side.

That means if you put a 60V Flexvolt battery on it, the tool and it’s electronics can take advantage of the bigger battery, and boost performance significantly. Like 83%. That’s a big jump. And based on the reviews of previous Flexvolt Advantage tools, we believe them.

So how much power is that? DeWALT says it’s 1,800 UWO, what’s that mean? Brace yourself. About a year ago, DeWALT stopped using Torque to rate the power of their drills because they think, rightfully so, that just publishing a torque rating doesn’t effectively tell you which tool is best. So instead they came up with their own standard, that’s so complex, I’m not going to even try to explain it. Instead, I’m going to point you to a fantastic article Stuart wrote over at Toolguyd. It’s so thorough, that if you DO read it, you have a 83% chance of getting a nose bleed.

In short, 1,800 UWO is equal to 2,300 Schrute bucks. Unfortunately no other brands are measured on the Shrute scale, so we can’t tell you if it’s more powerful than a Milwaukee, until someone runs some tests.

Either way, they’re DeWALT tools, compact size, big power, and you can get them right now. Both the DCD444B and the DCD445B can be had for $279 bare, or you can get the 445 in a kit for $479.
